Music Generation Donantion

Music Generation is Ireland's National Music Education Programme which helps children and young people access vocal and instrumental tuition locally and is co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, The Department of Education and Skills and Local Music Education Partnerships. Music Generation Cork City (MGCC) was established in 2012 as part of this national programme and provides performance music education through partnerships with local communities. With a socially inclusive ethos, MGCC works with local musicians and organisations to bring performance music education to over 2,000 children and young people across Cork City.  In September 2016, building on the success of the primary schools’ programme in Mahon, MGCC, in partnership with Cork Academy of Music launched the Local Mahon Community Music Hub at Nagle Community College.

St. Michael's Donation

St. Michael’s Credit Union’s involvement was to support this development through providing funding for a new instrument. As a local organisation we want to support local initiatives that are making a difference in our community. St. Michael’s proudly provided financial support for the purchase of a new euphonium which has been added to MGCC’s bank of instruments for use by the Mahon Community Youth Brass Band.

On Wednesday last week two members of St. Michael’s went down to Nagle Community College, to see the organisation in action and to formally present the donation. There was a fantastic group of young people waiting to begin their music session. The area was full of young brass and wind musicians from the local schools.

Throughout the year St. Michael’s has been supporting local organisations and individuals doing fantastic work in the community. We have offered support to a wide range of initiatives that cover many areas of work in our community. This is something everyone involved with St. Michael’s is extremely proud of and it’s something that sets credit unions apart from other financial services. One of the co-operative principles is "concern for the community" and as a financial co-operative; we work proudly for the sustainable development of our community.
