Our Christmas Raffle raised €1,000 for the Cork Simon Community. The money raised will be going directly to their Housing Unit, Tír na nÓg here in Blackrock.
Tír na nÓg is provided as shared living. Residents have their own rooms and share a kitchen and there is a common living area. The Simon Community's supported houses provide intensive levels of round-the-clock care for men and women whose health and other needs are such that they are not able to live independently. A team of experienced care workers and trained volunteers staff all house on a 24-hour basis.
A quote from one of the residents of the housing shows how much of a positive impact it has on his quality of life;
“I love it here; I think this is what I was dreaming of…I’m a changed man, a very, very changed man. All my troubled days are over, thank God. I feel well safe when I’m in this house coz I knows I’m not out on the street. It’s help, and that’s what I’m looking for…and I gets it.” – ‘Richard’.
We would like to thank all our members who bought raffle tickets in support of the Simon Community's work. We would also like to thank the local businesses that provided prizes for the raffle;
With St. Michael's Credit Union being a locally focused organisation we wanted to involve local businesses. It was also important to ensure that the money raised would remain local and the €1,000 raised will be going directly to Tír na nÓg in Blackrock.
